Sometimes I feel like Voldemort.
Feeding off the energy of the Gen Zers I work with. They inspire me. They think TikTok trends are a legitimate business strategy. (Plot twist: they're right.)
Yesterday I spent two hours recording content with them as we campaign for the Rising Star award here in Chicago.
First they had me fall out of a tree:
Meet the wizards in the kitchen:
Bridget
Our Wisconsin-born socials mastermind who somehow makes my rambling sound coherent and my face look less tired. She’s the heartbeat of all we’re doing at Pie.
Jordan
The content machine and community builder who can turn anything into engaging social media. Founder of Cafetón. Yesterday I asked him to be on our podcast and he said “maybe.” That’s Gen Z.
Umama
Umama is the Forbes 30 Under 30 honoree and SweatPack founder who knows how to move people and build movements. As the millennial bridge between Gen Z (Bridget and Jordan) and Gen X (me), she runs shit.
We have a core value at Pie called "have your pie and eat it too.” It turns out that in the process of building community, it’s important to belong to one.
In this second video Bridget instructed to be more “performative male.”
What?
It’s traditional to look down on up-and-coming generations. Hot take. If you want to build the future, you do the opposite.
Look up.
When we shot that second video, I didn’t know what the hell “Boy, turn off that Clairo” meant.
I still don’t.
But I trust them.
Love the hot take about building up the current and future generations as opposed to looking down or making fun. So true.
